Travel the length of Vietnam on this weeklong tour, stopping in HCM6 (in the south), Hanoi (in the north), and the beaches and small towns of the central coast in between. Begin in dynamic HCMC, the country's commercial center and home to a growing number of upscale restaurants and shops. Visit Chinatown, the Thien Hau Pagoda, the Reunification Palace, the Opera House. If desired, also visit the powerful War Remnants Museum. Explore colorful outdoor markets and Dong Khoi Street, the city's main shopping boulevard with fashionable boutiques and accessories designed by new Vietnamese designers, hill tribe crafts, high quality linens and housewares. Try the south's strong Vietnamese iced coffee and a banh mi (baguette sandwich). Take a day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels and watch an unusual, eclectic religious ceremony at the main temple of Cao Daism, a unique fusion of world religions, in Tay Ninh. Alternatively, spend the day cruising the narrow canals of the Mekong Delta.

Next, fly to atmospheric Hoi An, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site and river town crammed with historic homes, tiny museums, cafes, and bustling silk and fish markets. Nearby, see ancient sculptures in the Cham Museum, and tour Buddhist cave temples in the Marble Mountains. Opt to stay at a luxury beach resort in nearby Danang, or a boutique riverside hotel in the heart of Hoi An.

Wrap up in Hanoi, Vietnam's artistic and intellectual capital. Explore the fascinating Old Quarter and its hundreds of specialty shops selling silk clothing, lacquerware, embroidered linens, furniture, bamboo, cooking utensils, ceremonial objects and more. Walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, ride a cycle to dinner, and watch a performance at the Thanh Long Water Puppet Theater. Dine in French colonial villas converted into gourmet restaurants. Enjoy people watching at stylish cafes. Shop for impressive modern art in the city's many galleries. Also visit Hanoi's main cultural attractions, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, his House on Stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Fine Arts Museum and the Temple of Literature.

Also spend a day cruising Halong Bay, where thousands of limestone rock sculptures jut dramatically from the sea and numerous grottoes have created an ephemeral, fantastic landscape.

Warmly welcome on arrival Ho Chi Minh’s Tan Son Nhat airport. Transfer to hotel. At leisure. Afternoon private city tour of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon. It is the largest and busiest city in Vietnam with a population of 7 million people. Don't miss the bustling Ben Thanh Market, The War Remnants Museum, The Reunification Palace.

Day 2: Mekong Delta Excursion

This morning, depart at 0800 from the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City to the area referred locally as "the rice bowl of Vietnam".

On arrival in Ben Tre Province head towards Tien Giang where you will board your local boat for a cruise among the aptly named Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle and Phoenix Islands. En-route, visit a small factory producing handicrafts made of coconut. Stop at Turtle Island where you will visit a tropical orchard to taste some exotic fruit. Continue on a smaller rowing boat for a more adventurous cruise on the Xep Canal which is set amongst a forest of palm trees. Embark once more by boat to Turtle Island where a selection of Mekong delicacies will be served for lunch. In the afternoon return to Ben Tre for a visit to Vinh Trang Pagoda before heading back to Ho Chi Minh City where you will arrive late this afternoon.
